The Harley-Davidson began to became acknowledged when William Harley and Arthur Davidson produced last 1903 the first production of motorcycle. The motobike that was built was a racing bike. It was made in a small shed wooden branded Harley-Davidson Motor Company on the front door. Harley-Davidson were able to develop 3 motocycles for the public immediately after one year. When Harley-Davidson won the 1st race last 1905, they hired their first employee. 3 years later, they sold the first motorcycle to the Detroit Police Department and was used as a police service. In 1912 H-D started establishing it’s 6 story factory and exports it’s first bikes to Japan, the first time sales were extended outside of the United States.
H-D became more popular in 1914 and was called “The Wrecking Crew” when formally signed up with the national racing circuit. In 1917, part of the motorcyles they created were sold the military and was used as military and civilian bikes.
By 1918 half of all bikes created were sent off to military for service in World War 1, and Corporal Roy Holtz is definitely the first soldier to ride a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle in Germany. The motocycle company became more effective in 1920 with 2,000 dealers in 67 countries in the whole world.
The Harley-Davidson competitor’s were gone in 1931 except for the Indian Motorcycle Company. In 1953, there were only two successful motocrycle companies, the Harley-Davidson and the Indian Motorcycle Company.
As the world enters into World War 2, so does Harley get back into Military motorcycle generation, and the service school is flipped back up in the military motorcycle service school, often called the Quartermaster School for military mechanics. This is the very time that the public had a hard time to obtain their hands on a H-D Motorcycle.
